Murder investigation launched

Hello Resident,

Our Major Crime Unit has launched a murder investigation following a death in Harwell. 

We understand this will be of concern to the community but we do not believe there is any threat to the wider public. 

We were called to an address in The Park at around 9.35pm yesterday. Officers attended and, despite their best life-saving efforts, a 64-year-old woman sadly died at the scene. 

The victim’s next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained family liaison officers. The coroner has also been informed, but the victim has not yet been formally identified.

A 41-year-old man from Oxfordshire, who is known to the victim, has been arrested on suspicion of murder. He remains in police custody at this time. 

A scenewatch is in place at the address and is expected to remain for some time. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

We are in the early stages of a complex investigation but we are following a number of lines of enquiry to establish the full circumstances around the murder.
